It was 11:00 Tuesday night when he addressed the crowd at the Hilton Garden Inn announcing his victory, and the next day, Mayor Mike Huether and his wife, Cindy, took a trip to Madison for some rest and reflection.

“I now have the honor to serve these people four more years and I’m just really excited about it, but you can tell, I’m a little tired today,” Huether said.

Besides enjoying a few moments at the Buffalo Trading Post, Huether is putting together a plan for his next four years.  It includes a new indoor pool and expanding the downtown area by moving the rail yard.

“This is a town that’s growing, and we need to stay one step ahead of that growth. Keeping our families safe, investing in infrastructure and all the while doing it and paying really special attention to that tax payer dollar,” Huether said.

He recognizes that there may be political obstacles in the way of what he wants to accomplish, but Huether is still confident that he’ll meet his goals.

“They may seem lofty, but to me, that’s what you do. You set these goals that if you work for it, you study for it, you pray for it, you can make it happen,” Huether said.

While those goals are in the near future for Huether, the next thing he plans to do is respond to the hundreds of emails and texts he’s received since his latest win.

“You don’t become the Mayor of the largest city in South Dakota on your own. I’m blessed by these people, and I’m not going to let them down,” Huether said.

Huether won’t rest for long. He says he’ll soon be back in town, ready to start the path toward making his big goals a reality.
