Well Done

Anyone can make campaign promises, but with hard work from the city and its citizens, I was able to follow-through on my actual 2010 campaign goals for the City of Sioux Falls and more! Check out my goals from the campaign 4 years ago and how we worked together to GET THINGS DONE FOR SIOUX FALLS!

Our New Event Center Opens in September

2010 Campaign Goal:
Mike has made it clear that the city needs a replacement for the aging 50 year old Arena.  Mike will present a feasible, sensible and forward looking plan to build a new arena that we will all be proud to support.  Ultimately, together we will get this done!

Goal Accomplished:
Our new event center was approved overwhelmingly by Sioux Falls voters.  The event center will open on time, within budget and 85% of the jobs to construct it are LOCAL jobs.  See you at the ribbon cutting in September.

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!

2010 Campaign Goal:
The Mayor needs to be the motivating force to bring good paying jobs to a city with a wonderful work force, favorable tax climate and outstanding quality of life.  I have spent my career developing and growing organizations generating thousands of jobs along the way.  This will continue as your Mayor!

Goal Accomplished:
Sioux Falls has one of the lowest unemployment rates in America at 2.9%.  Thousands and thousands of good jobs with competitive wages and solid benefits have been created.  HELP WANTED signs are everywhere!

Almost 300 Miles of Roads Repaired

2010 Campaign Goal:
We must improve the condition of the basic needs of our city and includes our roads.  If our community’s basic infrastructure fails, it becomes much more difficult to attract new employers and businesses.  Let’s fix these dang roads!

Goal Accomplished:
Almost 300 miles of roads have been replaced or repaired since Mike has been your Mayor.  That is the same distance from Sioux Falls to the Badlands of South Dakota! The city has also strengthened other critical infrastructure like sewer lines, parks, bike trails, public buildings and so much more.

Our City's Piggy Bank is Full and Growing

2010 Campaign Goal:
Mike will identify and cut waste so city government can be more productive, service oriented and effective. If families and businesses can tighten their belts, so can city government.

Goal Accomplished:
The General Reserve fund, or our city’s Piggy Bank, has grown every year since 2010.  We made more money than we spent because in Sioux Falls, we balance progress with prudence!

Pension Reform: $300 million in Savings

2010 Campaign Goal:
Mike will bring a fresh perspective, proven leadership and high expectations to the office.  He is not tied to special interests and will do what is necessary versus politically popular.  He also believes every neighborhood deserves a voice in city hall.

Goal Accomplished:
Your city has not been afraid to tackle tough issues like bad neighbors, code enforcement, rail yard relocation and even PENSION REFORM!  Tax payers are projected to save $300 million dollars by finding common ground with employee retirement plans.

Listening and Learning

2010 Campaign Goal:
Mike has been listening and learning throughout the campaign by going door to door and business to business all over our great city. He will not take the citizens of Sioux Falls for granted. He will continue this with listening sessions as your Mayor and he will also have active communication with all media outlets to promote the accomplishments of YOUR CITY.

Goal Accomplished:
Interacting with the people he serves is what Mayor Mike enjoys most!  He learns something new each day from the citizens, the city council, business leaders and other public servants like Governor Daugaard and the S.D. team.  Our partnership is strong.

More Affordable Airfare

2010 Campaign Goal:
The people of Sioux Falls want more affordable and convenient air fare options to and from our airport.  If Sioux City, Omaha and Rapid City can do this, WE CAN TOO.

Goal Accomplished:
The Sioux Falls Regional Airport is breaking records due to lower airfares, improved facilities, more flight options and enhanced service.  Great strides have been made at FSD, but more can and will be done!
